Contact Lens Exam Includes
Vision & Prescription Evaluation
We start by confirming your current prescription. If you haven't had a comprehensive eye exam recently, we'll schedule that first — your contact lens prescription and your glasses prescription are not the same number.
Corneal Measurement
Dr. Mathukutty or Dr. Stancea measures the curvature of your cornea using keratometry. This tells us the base curve and diameter your lenses need to fit without sliding or creating discomfort. Irregular corneas require specialty contact lens options — which we'll walk through with you.
Tear Film Evaluation
We assess your tear film to determine if standard soft contact lenses are appropriate for your eyes — and if dry eye needs to be addressed before you start wearing contact lenses. This step is what most quick fittings skip.
Trial Lens Fitting
You'll try on trial lenses in-office. We watch how the lens moves with your eyes, check centration, and evaluate how well your vision corrects with the fit in place. Nothing is finalized until we see how the lens performs on your specific eye.
Prescription & Follow-Up
Once the fitting is confirmed, your contact lens prescription is issued. A follow-up visit is included to make sure the lenses are performing correctly in real-world conditions before we finalize your prescription.

Patients with irregular corneas — including those with keratoconus, corneal scarring, or a history of corneal surgery — often cannot wear soft contact lenses. RGP lenses and scleral lenses vault over the irregular surface and create a smooth refracting surface in front of the eye. If you've been told you can't wear contacts, schedule an evaluation. Daily disposables are worn once and discarded — no cleaning required, lower risk of deposit buildup, and good for dry eye or occasional wearers. Monthly lenses are cleaned and stored each night and replaced every 30 days — lower per-lens cost for daily wearers. We'll recommend the right replacement schedule based on your tear film, wearing habits, and prescription during your fitting.
