in The Woodlands
Is the Right First Step
Before any laser surgery happens, your eyes need a thorough evaluation. At Superior Eye Care, our optometrists perform a complete pre-surgical assessment — examining your corneal thickness, refractive error, dry eye status, and overall eye health — to determine whether LASIK is genuinely the right fit for you.
We are not a LASIK surgery center. We are the eye care team that gets you ready. Our role is to evaluate your candidacy honestly, refer you to a trusted board-certified LASIK surgeon when you're a good fit, and manage your pre- and post-operative care so you have a familiar, trusted team throughout the entire process.
Patients come to us from The Woodlands, Willowbrook, and Conroe because they want an optometrist who will give them a clear, objective answer — not just tell them what they want to hear before a costly procedure.
What Happens During Your
LASIK Consultation
Before any referral is made, our optometrists perform a complete eye assessment. Here is exactly what we examine during your pre-surgical evaluation at Superior Eye Care.
Corneal Thickness & Shape
Your cornea must have adequate tissue for the LASIK flap to be created safely. Thin or irregularly shaped corneas are one of the most common reasons patients are directed toward PRK or other alternatives instead.
Critical AssessmentRefractive Prescription
We assess your level of nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism to confirm your prescription falls within the treatable range for LASIK. Prescriptions outside those ranges may require alternative correction methods.
Vision AnalysisDry Eye Screening
Severe dry eye is one of the most frequent disqualifying factors for LASIK. We evaluate your tear film and ocular surface health to catch this before surgery — protecting you from complications and poor outcomes post-procedure.
Pre-Op Safety CheckOverall Eye Health
We check for corneal irregularities, age-related changes, glaucoma risk, and retinal health. Any existing condition that could affect LASIK outcomes or post-operative healing is identified before a referral is made.
Full Eye ExamLifestyle & Vision Goals
Whether you are tired of glasses or contact lenses, need sharper vision for work, or have specific daily demands, we factor your lifestyle into the recommendation. LASIK is not one-size-fits-all — and we treat it that way.
Personalized CareSurgeon Referral & Post-Op Planning
If you are a strong candidate, we coordinate your referral to a trusted, board-certified LASIK surgeon. We also plan your post-operative care schedule so your follow-up visits happen with our familiar team — not back at the surgical center.
Co-ManagementNot every patient qualifies for LASIK — and that is exactly why this evaluation matters. Our optometrists will give you an honest assessment and discuss alternatives like PRK or implantable lenses if standard LASIK is not the right fit for your eyes.
From Consultation
to Clear Vision
— How It Works
Superior Eye Care manages your entire LASIK journey — from the first evaluation through post-operative recovery. You never have to navigate the process alone or figure out who to call after surgery.
Pre-Op Evaluation at Superior Eye Care
We perform a complete pre-surgical eye exam — corneal mapping, refractive testing, dry eye screening, and a full dilated assessment. You leave knowing exactly where you stand.
60–90 MinutesReferral to a Board-Certified LASIK Surgeon
If you are a strong candidate, we refer you to a trusted, board-certified ophthalmologist or LASIK surgeon who uses current FDA-approved laser technology and techniques.
Trusted NetworkSurgery Day — Fast & Comfortable
LASIK eye surgery typically takes minutes per eye. The laser reshapes the cornea to correct your vision. Patients notice little to no discomfort and most experience improved vision within 24 hours.
Minutes Per EyePost-Op Care Back at Superior Eye Care
We manage all your post-surgery follow-up visits — 24-hour, one-week, and one-month check-ins — so you return to our familiar team, not back to the surgical center for every appointment.
Ongoing SupportAre You a Candidate for LASIK?
Not every patient qualifies for LASIK — and knowing that before you book a surgery consult saves you time, money, and frustration. Here is what we look for during your evaluation.
Strong LASIK Candidate
You likely qualify if you meet these criteriaStable vision for at least one year Prescription has not changed significantly in the past 12 months
Prescription within the treatable range Nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism within LASIK limits
Adequate corneal thickness Enough tissue to safely create the LASIK flap without risk
No active dry eye disease Healthy tear film with no significant ocular surface issues
Age 18 or older and in good general health No systemic conditions that could impair corneal healing
May Need an Alternative
These factors may disqualify standard LASIKSevere or chronic dry eye Can worsen significantly after LASIK — often a disqualifying factor
Thin or irregularly shaped corneas Insufficient tissue for safe flap creation — PRK may be recommended
Prescription outside the treatable range Very high myopia or hyperopia may exceed what LASIK can safely correct
Unstable or rapidly changing prescription Vision must be stable for at least 12 months before LASIK is considered
Certain medical conditions affecting healing Autoimmune or systemic conditions can impair post-operative corneal recovery
Not sure where you fall? That is exactly what your consultation is for. Our optometrists will evaluate all of these factors and give you an honest answer — including alternatives like PRK or implantable lenses if standard LASIK is not the right fit for your eyes.

Common Questions
Before Your
LASIK Consultation
Here are the questions our patients ask most often before booking their pre-surgical evaluation at Superior Eye Care.
Book a ConsultationYes. Pre-surgical LASIK consultations are available at all three Superior Eye Care locations — The Woodlands(Spring, TX), Willowbrook(Houston, TX), and Conroe(Conroe, TX). Each location performs a full pre-op evaluation and coordinates your referral directly. You can book online at whichever location is most convenient for you.
It depends on severity. Mild dry eye may be manageable before surgery with treatment, and many patients with mild symptoms proceed successfully. However, severe dry eye is one of the most common disqualifying factors for LASIK — it can worsen significantly after the procedure and affect long-term outcomes.
During your consultation, we assess your tear film and ocular surface health in detail and will recommend the safest path forward — including alternatives like PRK if standard LASIK is not appropriate for your eyes.
Plan for approximately 60–90 minutes. During that time, we perform corneal mapping, refraction testing, a full dilated exam, dry eye screening, and a candidacy assessment. You will leave with a clear understanding of whether you are a good LASIK candidate and what your next steps are — no vague follow-ups or unnecessary waiting.
Yes. We handle all post-op care for LASIK patients referred through our practice. This means your 24-hour, one-week, and one-month follow-up visits happen right here at Superior Eye Care — with the same optometrist and team you already know. You do not have to return to the surgical center for every check-in after your procedure.
Both LASIK and PRK use laser technology to reshape the cornea and correct refractive errors. The main difference is the approach: LASIK creates a thin corneal flap before the laser is applied, while PRK removes the outer corneal layer entirely, which is then allowed to regenerate.
PRK is often recommended for patients with thin corneas, active dry eye, or certain corneal irregularities that make flap creation risky. Our optometrists will determine which procedure is more appropriate for your eyes during your consultation — and refer you accordingly.
Coverage depends on your specific insurance plan. Superior Eye Care accepts most vision and medical insurance plans, and our team can help verify your benefits before your appointment. Give us a call at your preferred location and we will confirm your coverage details over the phone before you book.
