Digital retinal imaging, also called fundus photography, captures a high-resolution retinal image of the fundus — the inside surface at the back of your eye. It can show the retina, optic disc, macula, and blood vessels in a format that can be documented and compared at future visits.
This type of imaging does not replace a comprehensive eye exam or every dilated examination. Instead, it gives your eye doctor additional information to review alongside your symptoms, medical history, visual acuity, eye pressure, and other clinical findings.
